Welcome to Bogács! These pages are not an official tourist brochure, more the advice of a good neighbour on where to walk, where to soak your feet and where to eat really well while you stay with us. We only wrote down things we enjoy doing ourselves, and we hope you will like them too.

The village where you stay
Bogács Thermal and Beach Bath
Mineral-rich thermal water, medicinal and adventure pools, with night bathing on some evenings.
Cserépi road cellar row
A row of centuries-old wine cellars where Olaszrizling, the flagship wine of Bogács, is made. Live music plays in many of them in the evenings.
Millennium lookout tower
A hilltop lookout after a short walk, with a panorama of the village and the Bükkalja.
St Martin's Church
The only listed monument in Bogács, with a Romanesque core from the 13th century. Inside is the mysterious 400–500 year old "Madonna of Bogács", linked to several legends of healing.
Bogács Lake
A reservoir of nearly 20 hectares with carp, pike and catfish; evening fishing is possible.
Village house museum
A 140-year-old farmhouse whose furnishings bring old Bogács peasant life back to life.
Actors' Grove
At the entrance of the cellar row, a towering oak has been planted every year since 2009 in honour of the Nation's Actors, often by the artists themselves. A quiet, moving place.

Ördögtorony nature trail
The stone culture of the Bükkalja and the world of the Kisamerika cave dwellings.
Hór Valley
One of the longest valleys in the Bükk. At its entrance is the Subalyuk Cave with Neanderthal finds, and further up the ruins of Ódorvár castle.
Szomolya Beehive Rocks
Rock formations full of carved-out niches, a 31-hectare protected area.
Cserépváralja castle and Kács
Picturesque castle ruins and a village landscape with springs. On the way, the Cserépfalu Art Gallery and Pottery House.
Lajos knows every secret of the Bükk: beehive rocks, roads cut into the stone, gorges, castle ruins and caves. The tour can last from about 3 hours to a full day, and the route can be agreed individually. It is one of the best experiences in the area if you are looking for something special. +36 30 190 5087

Vadvirág Restaurant
A refined, family-run place, one of Hungary's top 100 restaurants (Restaurant Guru 2023). Modern Hungarian cuisine: goose liver seared on an iron plate, Argentine beef tenderloin, a wide choice of local wines and a heated terrace. Booking ahead is a good idea.
Hórvölgyi Remete Restaurant
At the entrance of the Hór Valley in a picturesque setting, with Hungarian cooking and the generous two-person "Remete platter" as the speciality. Child-friendly, with its own playground. A perfect stop after a hike in the Bükk.
Öreg Tölgy Bistro
Modern country bistro cooking at the foot of a 450-year-old oak, with light fittings woven from wine bottles. Forest mushrooms, game and a fine drinks list. A pleasant garden in season. Booking ahead is a good idea.
Rozmaring Restaurant
An inn known for its stone-baked pizza, near the Síkfőkút lakes, with Italian and Bükkalja cooking on one menu and child-friendly service. A good stop after a walk or trip around Noszvaj.
Almárium Kert
The shade of walnut trees, its own garden, a stream behind the house, and a kitchen cooking seasonally and lightly with ingredients from local farmers and winemakers, yet with familiar flavours. They also host music and cultural events announced in advance. Booking ahead is a good idea.
Cellars and evening entertainment
The flagship wine of the village is Olaszrizling, which here grows in a style similar to the Eger wine region, though a little more acidic. Three ancient cellar rows keep the tradition alive.
Csáter apó Cellar (Ádám Hajdu)
Four generations of family tradition on the cellar row; wine ripens from white and red grapes on their 6.5-hectare estate.
AZ Pince Bogács (Andrea Demeter)
A youthful winery on rhyolite tuff soil: Chardonnay, Olaszrizling, Pinot Gris and more. Tastings by prior arrangement.
An evening on the cellar row
At several points along the Bogács–Cserépi road cellar row, including the Hintóvölgye Retro Terrace, dinner is served with live music, in an atmospheric cellar or on a summer terrace.

Opening hours
Opening hours of most cellars, museums and nature trails change with the season; it is worth calling ahead or checking the latest details.
Payment
Cards are accepted in the larger restaurants and at the bath; at some smaller cellars, count on cash.
Booking
At weekends and in high season it is worth booking a table ahead at the more popular restaurants (Vadvirág, Hórvölgyi Remete, Öreg Tölgy, Rozmaring).
